WET BELTS
Wet Belt Replacement
Wet Belt, Cambelt, Timing Belt
A wet belt, also known as a wet timing belt or belt-in-oil, is a timing belt that runs inside the engine, lubricated by engine oil — unlike a traditional “dry” timing belt that runs outside the engine.
What does a Wet Belt do?
Just like any timing belt or chain, a wet belt keeps the crankshaft and camshaft(s) in sync, making sure the engine’s valves open and close at the right time.
Why is it called “Wet”?
Because it runs inside the engine’s oil system, the belt is constantly bathed in oil — hence “wet.”
Manufacturers (like Ford, Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, and others) designed it this way to:
-
Reduce friction and noise
-
Improve fuel efficiency
-
Extend service life
Harrietsham Garage & MOT advise replacing your Wet Belt every 65,000 - 125,000 miles (depending on your vehicle make and model). Wet belts can degrade over time, especially if oil changes are skipped or the wrong oil is used.
How do I know if my vehicles has a Wet Belt?
